Detectives with the Edmonton Police Service Sexual Assault Section are searching for a suspect after a serious sexual assault earlier this week.
Early in the morning of August 8, 2009 a 30-year-old woman was walking in north central part of Downtown Division. She was approached by an unknown male in a truck who offered her a ride. She accepted and got into the vehicle. The male drove to an industrial area in southeast Edmonton where he assaulted and sexually assaulted her. She managed to escape her attacker and flagged down a passing motorist. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated and released.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 45-55 years old. He’s at least 6’ tall with a medium build. He has a scruffy beard, reddish hair with some grey. He wore a black ball cap, very thick glasses and said his name was Brian.
The vehicle the suspect was driving at the time of the assault is described as an older model North American regular-cab pickup truck, medium blue with a white stripe down the side (similar to the one pictured below). The interior is maroon. It has running boards, louvers (slats) over the rear window, and a tank in the box of the truck (similar to a fuel tank).
“We need to identify this person right away,” says EPS Sexual Assault Section Staff Sergeant. “Anyone who may know this suspect or anything about the attack is asked to call police immediately.”
